The science side of sport is desperately underserved
India has 1.4 billion people and a growing ecosystem of professional leagues, national programmes and elite academies. Yet trained sports scientists remain genuinely rare — demand far exceeds supply, and has for years.
The BSc Sports Sciences at ISST was built to fill exactly that gap: not a general fitness degree or a borrowed exercise-science curriculum, but a three-year deep dive into how performance is built, measured, improved and protected at the highest levels of Indian sport.
Graduates work with state and national athletes, IPL franchises, Olympic development squads and the National Institute of Sports.
What three years of sports science looks like
Every semester builds on the last — from foundational anatomy and physiology in Year 1 to applied performance science and specialisation in Year 3.
Human Anatomy & Physiology
The musculoskeletal and organ systems, and how the body adapts to physical stress.
Exercise Physiology
Cardiovascular and respiratory responses to exercise, energy systems and training adaptation.
Sports Biomechanics
Movement analysis, force production, and mechanics applied to technique and injury prevention.
Sports Nutrition
Macronutrients, micronutrients, hydration and fuelling performance across different sports.
Psychology of Sport
Mental performance, motivation, concentration and the psychological demands of competition.
Specialisation & Internship
Performance analysis, research methods and a guaranteed internship with a partner academy, club or performance centre.
Two doors open, not one
A UGC-approved degree means you can work straight away, continue to postgraduate study — including abroad — or specialise sideways.
Strength & Conditioning Coach
Physical preparation programmes for athletes at academies, clubs and franchises.
Sports Physiologist
Physiological testing, load monitoring and recovery for teams and national programmes.
Performance Analyst
Turn athlete and match data into coaching decisions.
Sports Nutritionist
Fuelling, body-composition and recovery nutrition for athletes.
Sports Rehabilitation Specialist
Return-to-play conditioning alongside medical staff.
High Performance Manager
Run the science and medical backroom for a club or squad.

Frequently asked questions
The questions the admissions desk answers most often.
Is the BSc in Sports Sciences a UGC-approved degree?
Yes — a UGC-approved bachelor's degree awarded with Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth, valid for government jobs, further postgraduate study and study-abroad applications.
What is the eligibility?
12th pass in any stream. Science helps with the physiology modules but is not required, and there is no entrance exam or sports performance trial.
Do I need to be an athlete to apply?
No. The degree is about the science of performance, not about performing. Many students come in as sports fans rather than competitors.
How is this different from a BPEd or a physiotherapy degree?
A BPEd trains teachers and coaches; physiotherapy is a clinical licence. This degree sits between them — the applied science of improving healthy athletic performance, with lab-based assessment rather than clinical treatment.
Is hostel accommodation available in Navi Mumbai?
ISST assists incoming students with accommodation near the Kharghar campus. Raise it on the admissions call and the desk will share current options.
How do I get the fee structure?
Send the enquiry form and an advisor calls back the same working day with the full fee structure, instalment options and intake dates.
